Who Is The TECH?

SOUNDTRACK ON/OFF//

Since I was a child I was drawn to all things electronic. I would find myself taking apart old radios and pretending to upgrade them or rebuild them into intergalactic communicators. And no, E.T. never did phone home but that didn't stop my imagination or fascination with Technology. I always believed that all of these electric components around us would advance over time to make life more exciting. From my first Speak & Spell to my first computer, the Commodore 64, I just kept getting lured in deeper and deeper. By the time I owned my second computer, the Apple Macintosh Performa, I was hopelessly addicted to Technology and everything I dreamt it would bring into my world. So from early on I dove head-on into anything and everything I could get my hands onto that defined the cutting edge of Technology at that time.

Before I even hit high school I had already learned how to crack and copy computer games, tune into neighbor's cable TV systems and even shoot, edit and add graphics and music to VHS videos I filmed at school. Yes, some of the above was a bit on the naughty side, but the fact that I could do it at such a young age is clearly the point. ;) By the time I was in college I had single-handedly designed and built an automated computer based MIDI home recording studio. Not before long I was teaching myself things like computer graphics, 3D design and animation. Soon after that I became curious enough to actually crack open a PC which of course then led me to learn how to upgrade and eventually build them.

The best part, in my opinion, is that everything I learned about Technology over the years I learned on my own. I was driven simply by one thing, my love for Technology. I never saw it as something that would land me a good job, it was just fun; something I loved to learn about and experiment with.

That being said, my self taught knowledge of technology actually did land me some pretty good jobs. One of my first technology related jobs was at Kinko's (known today as FedEx Office). I worked my way up from the copy department to the custom printing department to where I felt most at home, the computer department. At some point my insatiable need to have access to the latest cutting edge technology led me to a sales position at CompUSA. That eventually helped land me a job with Apple Computers as a retail rep, before they launched the Apple Stores. Through out this time I maintained a second job as a computer instructor at a career education school a friend of mine co-owned. I taught one class in computer basics and another in HTML website design. But then came my first major score, I landed a job as an Information Technology (I.T.) Support Technician for a pretty well known company at the time, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. It was an amazing experience. Finally I felt as if I had found my calling. On a daily basis I was able to help people who stumbled and struggled with the very thing that came so easily to me; Technology. The gratification I felt when I would fix someone's computer, or teach them how use a program, it was addictive. It was nice being the resident Tech Hero. ;)

Since then I've gone on to work as an independent contracted Tech in the I.T. departments of many companies from fortune 500's to small mom and pop shops. I've had two offices in Manhattan over the years, one a block away from Madison Square Park and the iconic Flatiron building and another one two blocks away from Central Park South on the corner of 57th Street and Broadway in the historic Fisk Building. At one point I was also the Chief Technology Officer of an Independent Entertainment company in charge of their computer systems and web presence. As of the beginning of 2009 I was working as the Operations Manager of a financial company based in New York City for about four years, and even though I was directly responsible for all of their technology, I felt as if I could be doing more to help more people. So on the morning of January 20th 2009 I decided to venture off on my own once again as a Tech for Hire but this time, for the first time, I decided to direct my help towards the everyday person and not target only businesses. I feel that now more than ever people are bringing new technologies into their homes and not everyone is going to feel comfortable making sense of it all. From Bluetooth to WI-FI to HDMI, chances are you are going to be faced with new technology, and it may confuse you, but just remember, you are not alone. Now you too can have your very own Tech Hero. That's right, like it says on the home page, have no fear, The TECH is here. ;) And I mean it, no job is too big or too small, just give The TECH a call. Or you can click here right now to Get The TECH! Trust me, you'll be glad you did.
